two of swords
Cardinal air: hoodwink, meditation, commitment.
TWO OF SWORDS
The Two of Swords is a card of dedication, commitment, and artistry. There is a narrowing of possibilities on the point of a blade. There is a singular commitment to a path.
But there is also a playful element to this card; a sense of performance and theatricality.
This scene could be from a play or a photoshoot. The figure could be sitting for a portrait, or waiting for a lover to release them from a game. They could be practicing meditation or endurance. They could be showing off.
LIBRA I + TWO OF SWORDS
This card correlates with the first decan of Libra. You can learn more about the decans here. And you can find out how I am working with these micro-zodiacal containers here.
This decan is co-ruled by Venus and the Moon and there is a dreamy, meditative atmosphere here, in spite of the sinister appearance of blindfold and swords. This is a willing surrender; a ritual initiation or a chosen threshold.
As Kira Ryberg says, in her book 36 Decans, this is the place of the artist.
‘When we think back to the woman in the Two of Swords, she’s sitting calmly and appears to be contemplating something. Much like a cautious artist, she carefully considers her next move before approaching her canvas, allowing her instincts to guide the way.’
T. Susan Chang sees the blindfold as the “hoodwink” of the secret society, and this image as one of initiation into a group or to an apprenticeship.
This card comes up where creative projects, relationships, and hobbies, especially to do with performance, art, or writing, are joyfully initiated.
